Statement from NAF President & CEO Brittany Fonteno on Trump Administration’s cuts to Title X funding:
The Trump administration’s unconscionable move to freeze millions in federal family planning grants distributed through the Title X program is just the latest attempt to attack Planned Parenthood and other providers while denying people access to the health care they need.
Title X provides affordable birth control and reproductive health care to millions of people each year who otherwise could not afford these services on their own. This freeze will target NAF members, including Planned Parenthood affiliates and independent abortion providers who serve many patients through Title X each year.
We are already experiencing a reproductive health care crisis in this country, and these dangerous cuts will deepen disparities in care for people of color, people living in rural or underserved areas, and people with low incomes. It is shameful that this administration is jeopardizing people’s health and lives just to push their political agenda and punish organizations that they disagree with. Worse still is the supposed basis for these freezes – that these providers had a public commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
NAF will continue doing everything possible to help our members navigate these changes, so that they can focus on providing high-quality care to their communities.
NAF remains committed to helping as many people as possible access high-quality and affordable abortion care. Anyone in any state can call the National Abortion Hotline at 1-800-772-9100 to understand their options and get the assistance they need, whether that’s help finding a provider, arranging travel to another state, or funding for their care.
