Brittany Fonteno

President & CEO

Brittany Fonteno is the President and CEO of the National Abortion Federation – the leading national professional association of abortion providers – and the National Abortion Hotline – the largest patient assistance fund in the U.S. Brittany is a seasoned strategist, advocate, and leader with nearly 20 years of experience in the movement for sexual and reproductive health, rights, and justice. She has demonstrated expertise in health care, advocacy, communications, organizational strategy and operations, fundraising, and coalition building. Her work focuses on achieving health and racial equity for all people by bringing the most marginalized communities to the center of sexual and reproductive health care.

Brittany previously served as the President & CEO of Planned Parenthood Arizona—the state’s largest provider of sexual and reproductive health care, education, and advocacy—and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona—PPAZ’s political and advocacy arm. She led the organization during one of the most perilous times for reproductive freedom, as the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and dismantled the federal right to abortion. Under Brittany’s leadership, Planned Parenthood in Arizona fought back against a total abortion ban, including co-founding the successful effort to enshrine abortion rights in the state’s constitution. Additionally, the affiliate launched several new services, including expanded abortion care, a clinical research program, vasectomies, gender-affirming care, doula support, and increased family planning services. Prior to this role, she served in different capacities within the Planned Parenthood Federation and the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice.

As a frequent commentator on reproductive freedom and politics, Brittany has appeared in media outlets including CNN, ABC, Time, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Bloomberg, Fortune, and Axios. She has also served on the board of directors for Young People in Recovery and the New York Abortion Access Fund. She possesses a bachelor’s degree from American University and a master’s degree from Georgetown University.

Outside of work, Brittany enjoys teaching Zumba, practicing yoga, and dancing salsa. She loves traveling and learning about different cultures, exploring the arts, and spending time with family and friends.
