Access to Mifepristone via Telehealth Continues For Now
Statement from Brittany Fonteno, President and CEO of The National Abortion Federation, on the Supreme Court’s decision to maintain access to mifepristone via telehealth nationwide while litigation proceeds:
“The Supreme Court’s decision today is critical to ensuring continued access to mifepristone through telehealth and maintaining an important and popular pathway to care for patients, especially those who may not otherwise be able to access timely abortion care.
“But let’s be clear: the threat to abortion access remains. We know this case is far from over and anti-abortion extremists will continue trying to undermine access to mifepristone despite more than 25 years of safe use and overwhelming evidence supporting its efficacy in abortion care and miscarriage management.
“Patients and providers need stable access to care, not more politically driven uncertainty. Any future restriction on mifepristone through telehealth access would create confusion, delays, and medically unnecessary barriers for patients and providers nationwide. NAF and our members will continue to fight to protect full access to mifepristone via mail and ensure people can get the abortion care they need.”
